In April 2024 The John Wallis Academy had a much needed renovation of its sports floor. The renovation was desperately needed as the sports floor had become damaged, scuffed and quite slippy to play on due to the worn surface. It was not easy to even see the games lines anymore due to the wear and tear over the years. The PU floor was installed in 2005 without a skirting board and there was an unsightly crack virtually completely around the edge of the floor.
Initially the goal was to replace the floor but after learning about the benefits of the Dr. Schutz Floor Remake system offered by Biddle Sport, the Academy Director of Sport Jamie Tandy decided to renew the floor instead. A new floor would have delayed the project for years due to the high cost of replacing the floor. But with the Floor Remake system, the Academy no longer had to wait due to the significant cost savings.
The process
Install a new beech polished skirting, with rubber strip fitted at the base.
An intensive strip-cleaning operation that includes abrasion of the surface, following by rinsing with clean water. The numerous small cracks in the floor are filled and, once dry, sanded smooth.
The PU Color coating is applied by roller in Mouse Grey, the new floor colour chosen by the Academy from a choice of 216 RAL colours.
- The clear PU Sealer is applied, in satin finish, and the surface is abraded and vacuumed prior to court marking.
The new court lines are marked out and painted with PU line color.
The Academy logo stencil is placed on the floor while the logo is being painted. We always prepare a court layout in full colour and detail for all the stakeholders to see prior to work. The logo makes the floor unique and goes that extra mile. The Running Man will hopefully be an inspiration to all the students that play sports in the hall for years to come.
The floor is finished with a second coat of clear PU Sealer to protect the floor and make future cleaning and maintenance easier.
